Sonic and visual artist John Kannenberg (b.1969) received his BFA with a concentration in
drawing and painting in 1993, and has been performingand writing music for over fifteen
years. After drumming in several bands, John began exploring electronics and computer-aided
composition in 1997 with the experimental improvisational duo Wireshock.

In 1999, John began work on solo sound projects using manipulated field recordings as the
foundation for loop-based generative electronic pieces. While his sound works have grown
slightly more structured in form, they nonetheless remain freely expressive and chance-based
while incorporating applied visual art techniques related to field drawing, minimalism and
abstract expressionism in their construction.

His major works deal with a variety of themes including primal natural forces, spirituality and
mindful contemplation, abstracted narrative tales, and the confluence of sonic and visual art.

John has performed his compositions and improvisations in the United States and the UK
including appearances at the 2003 Placard Festival NYC, the 2002 Maxis Festival in Sheffield
UK, and the 2001 Outer Ear Festival in Chicago. He has exhibited sound art installations in
physical spaces and online galleries both alone and as part of a collective of sound, visual and
interactive designers known as J3.

Since April 2002, John has served as creator, designer and curator of Stasisfield.com, an
experimental music label and interdisciplinary net.art space presenting works by a diverse
collection of artists from around the globe.
